Why Satanism is important to women today

Bustle Magazine sat down with 6 different women from the Satanic Temple and asked intimate questions on what their motivation was for becoming Satanists. This was a part of Bustle.com’s spirituality series for the month of October.
The Satanic Temple is on the forefront of Satanic activism today. Founded in 2012, they quickly gathered their resources and challenged modern norms in American society, even erecting a giant Baphomet statue at a capitol building in Oklahoma.
For one woman from the Satanic Temple of New York, Seraphina, she felt that Satanism represented for her a symbol of freedom against tyranny. Another woman, Emma, believed that having a non-theistic religion would be a valuable offer to those that are seeking a religious atmosphere without the traditional drawbacks that most major religions have. You can belong to a community without committing in a religious way.
Other women have joined simply because the Satanic Temple advocates for reproductive freedom for women, something that the religious right has had control of for far too long. The Satanic Temple does not believe in forced motherhood, and this is appealing to many women who want control of their reproductive lives. They believe that religion should stay out of the bedroom and out of politics that aim to control women’s reproductive rights.
Other women chose Satanism and the Temple of Satan because it allows them an outlet for social justice. Many of them agree with the idea of separation of church and state. The Satanic Temple has allowed them to have the freedom to live life the way they want. And its probably the only religion that advocates gender equality. In today’s world that’s important for women.
